About the bird
Known as the Sooty Tern (Onychoprion fuscatus), this striking seabird is often referred to as the Dark-backed Tern, Dark Tern, or Wideawake Tern. It is easily recognized by its dark plumage — with wings, back, and crown almost black — contrasting sharply with its bright white underparts.
